Aces avenge Wolverhampton Wolves loss
Wolverhampton simply could not live with the pace and passing power of Belle Vue in a 56-34 defeat at the National Speedway Stadium.
Sam Masters and Rory Schlein were the only Parrys International Wolves riders to record race wins on a night to forget – as the Aces exacted revenge for their defeat in the reverse fixture just 48 hours earlier.
Steve Worrall held off Jacob Thorssell having gated in the opener with Ashley Morris passed at the back by Craig Cook inside a lap.
Jye Etheridge’s blistering gate won the reserve race with Damian Drozdz passing Nathan Greaves during lap two for the point that secured another Aces 4-2.
Masters blasted around the outside to take a comfortable chequered flag but Dan Bewley overhauled Kyle Howarth to prevent Wolves making inroads.
Schlein led the way having got around both reserves in the fourth only to get outfoxed on the inside of the first turn on lap two by Max Fricke who went on to win with ease.
Thorssell briefly threatened to pinch the lead from Bewley in heat four but then got reined in by Rohan Tungate to put Wolverhampton 10 in arrears.
The response was immediate with Schlein and Cameron Heeps cruising to victory over Grand Prix racer Cook and Great Britain international Worrall.
Howarth led the seventh until Fricke’s brave dive up a tight gap on the inside sealed a shared heat.
Heat eight was a thriller as Greaves thrashed it out with Worrall for second before Heeps pinched another share of the spoils coming out of the final turn.
Schlein got passed by then repassed Tungate only to get beaten on the final lap with Bewley trumping Heeps to extend to eight Belle Vue’s lead.
Masters trapped but had it all to do to hold off Cook in the tenth. Worrall battled past Howarth on the home straight of lap three.
Etheridge swerved through the traffic to lead heat 11 and while Fricke and Thorssell got up the inside during the final lap, the Aces went into the interval 10 to the good. Masters came in as a tactical substiute for Howarth in heat 12 and after Drozdz was excluded for hitting the Australian’s back wheel, Masters got to the front in the re-run but Bewley passed for a 3-3.
Despite an early wobble, Cook and Fricke killed off Wolverhampton’s hopes by blasting around the outside in heat 13.
Tungate and Etheridge swarmed all over and beat Masters in heat 14 with Fricke passing Schlein to complete a five-ride paid maximum to finish.
