Nigel Pearson's Track Talk - Leicester clash could be a belter

You can’t beat the experience of attending a speedway event.

The raw noise of the bikes, the smell of methanol and the daredevil style of the competitors racing for both themselves and their team. It’s pure grit!

On Monday night Wolverhampton take on Leicester at Monmore – and it’s a meeting I’m very much looking forward to.

I’ll be there in my capacity of commentator for BT Sport – but just because it’s on TV, don’t let that stop you from going along and seeing the action live.

Speedway looks great on TV, but it’s always better when we see busy terraces and Monmore always delivers that. In fact, Monmore consistently delivers some of the best action BT Sport get – and Sky Sports before them.

It’s a technical track with several racing lines and, whilst my favourite circuit is Belle Vue right now, Monmore is right up there.

What I have always liked about the sport is the way newcomes can always ask fans for help – whether it be filling in the racecard or identifying the riders. This is particularly evident when Parrys International Wolves pack the place out on Bank Holidays.

Monday night sees established Danish international stars Kenneth Bjerre and Hans Andersen in Leicester colours.

And I’ll be particularly interested to see Krystian Pieszczek in action. The Polish sensation comes from the same management stable as legendary former World Champion Tomasz Gollob and is very highly rated. Monmore will be quite an experience for the lad!

Danny King has always been a loyal servant to British Speedway and was always popular during his time down the road at Birmingham. It would be good to see a few Brummies fans at Monmore on Monday.

So, you get my message. Come along and join in the fun, you might even get your face on TV! The pits are open before the start of the meeting until just before 7pm and you can take a close look at how riders and mechanics prepare for the meeting. It’s great access.

Meanwhile, there are stories doing the rounds that the sport could be about to return to West Yorkshire.

A group of enthusiastic fans have the backing of the council and a venue has already been identified, but they’re refusing to say whether it’s Odsal in Bradford where the shape of the track remains around the Bulls Rugby League pitch.

I wish them well and the key factor here is the help of the council. I’m delighted to see a local council backing the return of a famous old club – and I trust they enjoy more success than we have after nine seasons with Cradley Heath.

Speaking of the Heathens, our next meeting is on Monday week – against Birmingham! It’s a must-win clash for both teams and the rivalry means there should be a bumper crowd – just like the old days!

I’m delighted to note increased crowd levels at Birmingham and continue to wish them well – until 7.30 next Monday night!
