Track Talk: Kyle Howarth is going for final glory on home shale

Kyle Howarth has only ridden for his hometown club during one spell.

But Mancunian racer Kyle, a firm favourite with Wolves fans, will be back on home territory on Monday when the Aces host the British Final.

And he’d love nothing more than to win the national crown in front of friends and family.

He’s the kind of rider who I believe can spring a surprise or two on the big stage.

On his day he’s more than capable of a double-figure haul at the top level – ask any Wolves fan and they’ll agree with me. But at the same time he might have an off-night and only manage five of six.

One thing you’ll always get from Kyle, however, is 100 per cent effort and commitment. I like that.

He’s the kind of rider every team wants. As for international success, even Kyle will admit he’s not the highest profile rider but on Monday in Manchester he will cause an upset or two.

Personally, I believe Robert Lambert has a great chance of winning the title – but don’t write off reigning champion Craig Cook on his home track. He’ll be keen to prove a point after being taken out of five of his six rides in the Speedway of Nations at Belle Vue last Tuesday.

And at the time of writing I am hearing whispers of a possible sensational call-up for former Cradley man Stevie Worrall, just two months after suffering a broken leg. I understand he’s had a behind-closed-doors practice and has made himself available.

That takes me back to British greats Kenney Carter and Peter Collins. Carter rode in the 1985 final at Coventry with a broken leg – and Collins rode in the 1977 World Final in similar circumstances.

I hope Stevie has healed well.

Cradley are facing up to a classic 'must-win' match against Coventry at Leicester tomorrow.

We’ve been boosted by the availability of Drew Kemp at reserve after initially losing him to Mildenhall, but their fixture has been cancelled. The Bees beat us at Monmore recently so revenge is very much on our mind and if we can go to Leicester and claim three points it will effectively mean a straight shootout with Birmingham over two legs to decide the winners of the group.

We face the Brummies – a team I rate very highly and I’m delighted to note encouraging increased attendance levels at Perry Barr – at Monmore on Monday, July 2. Now that will be one to watch, get it in your diary now!

Tonight sees the second and deciding leg of the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Final here in Wroclaw, Poland.

I flew out here on Thursday and it’s a beautiful city, perfect for couples or stag/hen trips in equal measure!

Poland is vastly underrated as a tourist destination. It’s economically viable and there are flights from most Brirtish airports. Speedway fans should consider one trip a year out here if the pocket allows.

Great Britiain, including Tai Woffinden, do battle again tonight and Woffinden has been a massive credit to the way he has handled his return to the British side.

We are live on BT Sport tonight from 5.45pm – join us if you can.
