Rory Schlein playing captain's role for Wolverhampton Wolves

Schlein, who joined the club in April when they made two early team changes, has proved to be an astute signing and takes over the skipper role in the absence of the injured Freddie Lindgren.

They head to Swindon for their first leg clash in the Premiership Grand Final with Chris Harris stepping in for Lindgren and the rider replacement facility in operation for Jacob Thorssell.

Both Swedish stars have been ruled out due to crashes in the bruising semi-final with Belle Vue.

Schlein is taking care of young reserve Nathan Greaves, who has bent bikes after a series of falls in a busy schedule.

Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten said: “Rory is sorting a bike out for tonight for Nathan because of Nathan’s problems.

“It underlines the spirit within the camp, if we are to win this Grand Final we are going to have to overcome the loss of our top two which is huge.

“But with team spirit like this, we can do it. Rory was delighted to be offered the captaincy for the final, although not in ideal circumstances with Freddie out hurt.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to get some important points at reserve, it’s going to take a solid all-round team effort.”
