Wolves' Knockout Cup semi-final is off
Fans favourite Jacob Thorssell insists he couldn't be more motivated for Wolverhampton Wolves' SGB Premiership play-off semi-final clash with Belle Vue at Monmore Green on Monday (7.30pm).
Not only has he suffered four rain-offs in the space of five days, including Friday night's scheduled Knockout Cup semi-final second leg at Somerset, but his hopes of another league title in Sweden were ended as Vetlanda were dumped out of their play-offs.
The Swede has described it as a hugely-frustrating week but is keen to turn despair into elation by helping Parrys International Wolves build up a healthy lead on Monday.
"All I've seen all week is rain," Thorssell said. "It's certainly got me down a little bit and to fly from Poland to England to Sweden and back to England for all those rain-offs has been disappointing. But I have to forget about it and move on to the next one because bad weather is something we can't control in speedway. I'm really looking forward to Monday and now we have the home leg first before going to their place on Wednesday, it's important we score as many points as possible.
"We've got a good home record again this year but Belle Vue have tested us and pushed us quite close when they've been to us this year.
"So we know we need to work that little bit harder and show them we're serious about winning the league again and I think we can definitely do that.
"Sam (Masters) is getting over his injury now and he's got his best engine back I think, Rory (Schlein) is getting better all of the time and the rest of the team are doing great too.
"I'm obviously even more motivated for it right now too because we lost with Vetlanda and had loads of back luck on Thursday so now I want to make sure I do my bit to help Wolverhampton win the league again over here.
"I said it last year – the club have stuck by me since early on in my career and it felt good to give them something back.
"They kept me in the team again this year too and I feel like I've improved well again both home and away. So I really want to be a big part of the team again in these play-offs and hopefully we all have a good meeting on Monday."
Thorssell is track reserve in tonight's Stockholm Speedway Grand Prix which also sees Wolves skipper Freddie Lindgren continue his quest for the world title.
