Tai Woffinden proving the critics wrong
In-form Tai Woffinden can’t wait to pile on more pressure in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series this weekend.
Great Britain’s double world champion, still a Wolves asset, propelled himself into the title race with a stunning success in Gorzow last week and now finds himself just eight points off leader Jason Doyle with four rounds remaining.
He heads to Teterow for the next stop on the series tour and the IPONE German FIM Speedway Grand Prix on Saturday night – and he’s buzzing with confidence.
“It’s all about putting the pressure on the three guys in front of me now,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting there on Friday and doing some laps before the meeting on Saturday.”
Woffinden has seen his season transformed in recent weeks and continued his fairytale form with 13+1 from five rides for Wroclaw in their Polish play-off semi-final with Gorzow on Sunday.
“It’s all coming together,” he said. “I was getting frustrated by people saying I’m not the same rider, I’m doing things wrong, this that and the other.
“I couldn’t let that continue. I knew it wasn’t me, I hadn’t become a poor rider overnight and I always had faith in my own ability.
“I just had to make a big call on something with my set-up and changed things and the results since I made the change speak for themselves.
“Now people are realising it wasn’t me, I wasn’t lacking desire or passion.”
