The Finnish ace raced for the Heathens over two seasons in 1979-80 at the start of a golden era for the club alongside legendary World Champions Bruce Penhall and Erik Gundersen.

A spokesman for the club said: “Everyone associated with Cradley Heathens would like to offer our sincere condolences to Ila’s family and Ila leaves us with some wonderful memories.”

He has previously starred for Leicester before his move across the Midlands to the Black Country. Teromaa passed away last week at the age of 63, reportedly following complications suffered after undergoing surgery.
