Fast Freddie out to make up lost ground
Wolves star Freddie Lindgren is aiming to reignite his World Championship campaign when he returns to action in the Czech Speedway Grand Prix tomorrow.
The 31-year-old has suffered knee ligament damage in Wolves’ 49-43 victory over Swindon on May 22 and lost his place at the top of the World Championship five days later when he could only drag his injured body to five points.
Despite admitting he is ‘not exactly 100 per cent’, Lindgren is raring to go at Prague’s Marketa Stadium as he bids to overhaul championship leader Patryk Dudek, who he trails by just a single point.
Posting on Facebook, Lindgren wrote: “Since battling through the pain with my injured knee at the last SGP in Latvia, I have now had almost two weeks of intense rehabilitation training to be able to come back to racing in the best possible condition as fast as possible.
“It has been a tough battle, it has been hard at times, but I have been fighting every day doing my exercises with great help from professional people around me.
“Yesterday I meet up with my physiotherapist yet again at the Swedish Elite Sports Complex in Bosön, Stockholm, to do some final tests with my knee before this weekend’s SGP, checking and measuring my strength and mobility.
“We were very satisfied with the outcome of these tests. My physiotherapist has given me a great thumbs up. I am still not exactly 100 per cent but I am not far off now. Let’s go racing!”
The new will come as a welcome boost to SGB Premiership leaders Wolves.
In his absence, Peter Adams’ men suffered their first defeat in eight meetings – 46-44 at Poole on Wednesday – although they still hold a healthy seven-point advantage over the Pirates at the top of the table.
Wolves’ next Premiership fixture is at home to Leicester on Monday, before turning their attention to the Knockout Cup at King’s Lynn on Wednesday.
