Wolverhampton Wolves captain Freddie Lindgren ruled out
Wolverhampton skipper Freddie Lindgren has been ruled out of the bumper Bank Holiday Monday clash with Poole at Monmore Green.
The Swedish racer is still struggling with a knee injury and needs some time to recover – he has also withdrawn from Polish and Swedish League racing this week.
‘Fast Freddie’ rode through the pain barrier in Saturday’s Latvian Grand Prix but was clearly in some discomfort as he scored just five points to slip off the top of the World Championship standings.
Team boss Peter Adams has booked seven-time British champion Scott Nicholls to replace him against the Pirates.
“Scott has done plenty of laps around Monmore over the years,” said Adams. “He’s enjoyed plenty of success at our track and is always a solid performer.
“Obviously it’s a blow to lose Freddie, especially with the form he’s been in of late, but in Scott I think we’ve got an adequate replacement who can cover his points.”
Fixtures between the Wolves and the Pirates are always highly anticipated and Adams is predicting another mouthwatering contest on Monday.
Adams added: “Poole are always tough opponents and that will be the same again this time around.
“We need to make sure we eradicate any inconsistencies that may have crept in against Swindon last time out and we’re certainly going to require contributions from all areas of the side.”
Poole hand a debut to Polish hotshot Grzegorz Zengota and also include former Wolf Nicolai Klindt at reserve.
The meeting is the first of two at Monmore on Monday and will be followed by Cradley versus Belle Vue Colts, who are both flying high at the top end of the Travel Plus National League table.
Fans have the option to watch both meetings for normal Wolverhampton admission prices (Cradley season ticket holders pay a £5 supplement).
Both clubs will be producing their own individual programmes containing racecards for both meetings for the occasion.
Supporters should note that gates will open at 4.45pm and are asked to kindly appreciate and respect the extra security checks that will take place upon entry to the stadium following the bombing in Manchester last week.
