No stopping Wolverhampton Wolves in this form
Wolverhampton have made Monmore Green a fortress again, writes Nigel Pearson.
They’re currently on a roll and I can’t see anyone stopping them – including Poole when they arrive on Monday.
It’s another Bank Holiday double header with the Premiership meeting followed by Cradley’s attractive National League clash with Belle Vue.
The changes made by Wolverhampton have paid rich dividends.
Rory Schlein has been a revelation, Mark Riss has been steady and although it was ruthless by the management in disposing of Skornicki and Clegg, they’ve been proved right.
Poole will put up a fight, of course they will.
Hans Andersen is always tough, Nicolai Klindt is returning to his first British track and I’m hearing whispers of a potential signing to cover for the injured Krzysztof Kasprzak.
As for the Heathens against Belle Vue, this could be a cracker. Dan Bewley is one of Britain’s hottest prospects and he went through the card against us when guesting for Mildenhall last month – he won the match for them.
But our lads are on form and riding with confidence. I’d like to think we can see them off but it could be down to the last three races.
Also, it’s Grand Prix time on Saturday as we head to Latvia and Daugavpils, close to the Russian border.
Wolves star Freddie Lindgren took a knock in the win over Swindon on Monday and didn’t race for Dackarna in Sweden on Tuesday but I’m hoping that’s nothing more than a precaution.
He’s scored 16 in both rounds so far and is a worthy leader.
He’s in the form of his life, not bad for someone who, more than once, has thought about packing it in!
Daugavpils is a big, fast race track and the Latvians love their speedway. It should be a great meeting.
Tai Woffinden has also found some form, scoring well for Masarna in Sweden on Tuesday and Wroclaw in Poland on Sunday on a new engine prepared by Peter Johns.
Don’t ask for a prediction because with this line-up I have no idea who will win!
On top of that, Greg Hancock is on his way to Wolverhampton – for one night only!
Yes, the Cradley legend and four-time world champion will join me on stage at the Cleveland Arms on Thursday, July 20 – 48 hours before the British Grand Prix in Cardiff.
Tickets are selling like hot cakes I’m told. It’s no surprise, he is the sport’s nice guy, always has a smile for everyone and it should be a great night.
