Peter Adams taking nothing for granted with Wolverhampton Wolves

Wolverhampton host Somerset at Monmore Green tonight for the first time in top-flight history.

The sides met in the South West on Friday, with Wolves coming out on top 49-44.

The win sent Peter Adams’ side to the top of the SGB Premiership table. And while the Wolves boss is keen to see his side extend their lead, he insists nothing is certain against the league newcomers.

“One thing is for sure, we won’t be underestimating Somerset,” Adams said. “Their victory at Belle Vue on Bank Holiday Monday was the result of the season so far and they showed what they’re capable of.

“It goes to show if you take your eye off the ball in this game then things can come and give you a big kick up the backside.

“But we’re beginning to show our teeth a bit now since making the team changes and we seem to be improving week by week. We’re on a run of four straight wins and the challenge is to keep that ball rolling.”

Wolverhampton: Freddie Lindgren, Kyle Howarth, Rory Schlein, Jacob Thorssell, Sam Masters, Mark Riss, Nathan Greaves.

Somerset: Rohan Tungate, Paul Starke, Charles Wright, Patrick Hougaard, Josh Grajczonek, Jake Allen, Jan Graversen.

Danny Ayres wowed the crowd by winning heat four without a saddle – but his late troubles in Cradley’s 46-43 defeat at Leicester proved a bigger pain in the backside.

The Heathens’ No.5, who also represents the Lions in the Premiership, had scored eight from three rides locked up in heat 13 before a mechanical fault caused him to miss the two minutes in a last-heat decider.

Ayres went off 15 metres but could not catch up as Josh Bates, the reserve who rode at number one for the much-changed hosts, led Matt Williamson in the only 5-1 of the night to secure the Ivor Brown Memorial Trophy.

On his battle without a saddle, Ayres said: “I have never had anything like that before.”
