Cradley Heathens' future secure under dual venues deal
Cradley co-promoter Gary Patchett has revealed how their future was "touch and go" after striking a deal to ride at both Wolverhampton and Birmingham in 2017.
The Heathens, who have been without a permanent home since the closure of their Dudley Wood base back in 1995, will split their fixtures between Monmore Green and Perry Barr.
The move comes after an increase in meetings for Wolverhampton caused a reduced number of dates to be available for the Heathens.
Patchett admits there was a time when they feared they may be unable to come to the tapes in 2017.
But after overcoming another winter scare, he is delighted to have found a solution to remain in the National League.
Patchett said: "It was touch and go at one point, but we've come up with a solution which suits everybody and we're pleased to be able to continue racing next year.
"There were doubts after the AGM, and we've been waiting on things in the other leagues to develop to allow us to know where we stand.
"We've got to thank Tony Mole for accommodating us at Birmingham again, because although it's not been without its issues we're grateful for their assistance.
"It's always a worry at this time of year whether circumstances beyond our control are going to adversely affect us.
"The format of the Premiership has changed meaning Wolverhampton need more Mondays available for extra fixtures.
"That has impacted upon the number of dates available for us, and whilst there are some available dates in between the Wolves fixtures there weren't enough to accommodate us full-time.
"I think we'll probably ensure that the critical matches are ridden on our favoured track.
"We're likely to take the cup matches to Birmingham and meetings where we feel there might not be quite as much need for a big home track advantage.
"We'd also like to assure fans that this uncertainty hasn't had an impact on team building, and our plans, whilst still dependant on the AGM, are already well under way."
