Report: Wolverhampton 62 Swindon 30
Wolverhampton Wolves sent a clear message to their Elite League title rivals with a crushing 62-30 win in their top-of-the-table showdown with Swindon.
Peter Adams' high-flying side put in a Monmore Green masterclass to comfortably dispatch of the third-place Robins and move four points clear at the summit.
It was a magnificent performance from Wolves as they comprehensively dispelled the notion that their form may be fading following their lightning start to the campaign.
They recorded 14 race wins and ran just two last places with a dominant display in the absence of injury victim Joonas Kylmakorpi (knee).
Experienced ace Peter Karlsson struck a stunning paid maximum, whilst he also helped bring the best out of young reserve Max Clegg who put in a remarkable performance.
Having set the tone with a win in a breathless heat one, Karlsson expertly shepherded home 18-year-old Clegg in heat five as they doubled their advantage to eight points.
Lower order partner Kyle Howarth, who has also endured a rough time in recent weeks, then pulled off a stunning ride to fend off in-form Grand Prix star Jason Doyle in the very next race.
From that point on they never looked back as they roared to an emphatic win and broke the 60-point barrier.
Skipper Freddie Lindgren dispelled any doubts regarding his fitness after his Cardiff crash just nine days ago as he reeled off four classy race wins in his final four outings.
Aussie ace Sam Masters also won four races out of five including perhaps the most pivotal ride of the evening in heat 10.
Having seen partner Jacob Thorssell controversially excluded for a first-bend fall, he demonstrated composure in abundance to fend off Robins' skipper Doyle.
He took a tactical ride in a bid to kick-start a Swindon comeback. It proved a fatal blow to the visitors as they crumbled in the closing stages and allowed Wolves to run riot.
After suffering a crushing 55-37 defeat at Lakeside last Friday, it was a confidence-boosting showing from Wolves as they recaptured their early-season form.
Swedish young gun Thorssell was the only rider to struggle as he hit the deck on two occasions, but he nonetheless dusted himself down partner Lindgren to a 5-1 in heat 13.
It was a result which ensured Wolves will head into the World Cup break high on confidence.
They will look to pick up where they left off when they host a mouth-watering Midlands derby with arch-rivals Coventry on Monday August 1 (7.30).
