The Parrys International Wolves were forced to overcome a stuttering start and a resilient Lions side.

They emerged with three vital points and avenged their narrow 47-43 loss at Beaumont Park when the teams met on Saturday night.

Despite their lowly Elite League position, the East Midlands outfit certainly played their part in what was arguably the meeting of the season so far.

Swedish duo Peter Karlsson and Jacob Thorssell played starring roles to ensure Peter Adams' side extended their lead at the top of the table to six points.

Veteran racer Karlsson rolled back the years with a classy display, notching a breathtaking paid 12-point haul from the No 2 spot.

The 46-year-old expertly followed skipper Freddie Lindgren in slicing past both Leicester riders to strike a 5-1 in the opening race of the night.

He repeated the trick by brilliantly blasting from third to first in his second outing before reeling off a further two wins in his next two outings.

Thorssell, meanwhile, was involved in the race of the night in heat eight to give the Monmore men their breakthrough and calm their nerves.

He brilliantly team rode with struggling reserve Kyle Howarth for three laps but briefly lost second place to Ludvig Lindgren entering the final lap.

Yet he demonstrated bravery in abundance to dive underneath the former Wolves man and partner Howarth for a maximum.

Howarth recorded his second win in heat 12, while No 1 Freddie Lindgren also bounced back from a mid-meeting slump to claim important wins in heats 11 and 13.

With Sam Masters contributing a race win in the tough No.3 spot, plus youngster Max Clegg battling to third place, ahead of former Cradley team-mate Paul Starke in heat 12.

It was a strong all-around team showing which prevented Leicester from earning a consolation point.

The Monmore men head to Belle Vue tomorrow (7.30) before travelling to Swindon 24 hours later.

Wolverhampton: Jacob Thorssell 15+1, Peter Karlsson 11+1, Freddie Lindgren 10, Kyle Howarth 7, Sam Masters 6+1, Max Clegg 1, Joonas Kylmakorpi R-R.

Leicester: Szymon Wozniak 10, Ludvig Lindgren 8+2, Nicolai Klindt 7+2, Paul Starke 6+1, Patrick Hougaard 4, Josh Auty 3+2, Aaron Summers 2.
