Wolverhampton Speedway today confirmed they have signed a new contract to keep the club at Monmore Green for another three years.

The club have staged top level racing at the track since their relaunch back in 1984 and this latest deal ensures continuity.

Parrys International Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten also revealed how Swedish racer Jacob Thorssell is set for a Premier League place to double-up with the club.

He's urging fans to back struggling star Freddie Lindgren, saying: "The new contract is positive news and ensures continuity for Wolverhampton at such a fine venue.

"We felt it was appropriate to make this information public after Cradley Heathens' situation last October, when they lost the use of the stadium.

"We operate on a rolling contract situation at Monmore and as one is due to expire we naturally look to put in place a new one, which is what has happened here.

"We enjoy a good working relationship with Ladbrokes and all their staff and we will continue to work hard to promote Wolverhampton Speedway and provide a good night of entertainment."

On the track, van Straaten admits he was frustrated by the team's defeat at the hands of Coventry last night.

He said: "Of course it was disappointing and, believe me, the management feel that as much as the supporters.

"I can never remember a night when my heat leaders didn't win a race – but that was the case against Coventry. A lot of focus has been on Freddie (Lindgren) and his run of low scores.

"However, if you ask any of the Coventry heat-leaders I'm certain they will tell you they have been through a similar tough run at some stage in the last 12 months.

"We need to stick together and get behind Freddie and help him through this. He's as frustrated as the rest of us.

"The Elite League race format is very demanding and unforgiving, although as a spectator I like it. People say the league is easy, but I'm sure Freddie will tell you different!

"In addition, Jacob (Thorssell) needs to race more regularly, he's been harshly treated in Poland and Sweden and I can confirm he is on the verge of joining a Premier League club.

"Jacob will remain with Wolverhampton and double-up but we will have priority over his services.

"We need to stick together at this tough time. Finding replacements and making changes is not easy but of course we will continue to look at what may become available."
