Tai Woffinden top of World Championship
Wolverhampton star Tai Woffinden moved back to the top of the World Championship standings with a second place finish in the British Grand Prix in Cardiff.
With a passionate Millennium Stadium crowd behind him, the World Champion was in scintillating form as he stormed to an 18-point haul.
Woffinden raced to four wins from his five qualifying heats to top the scorecharts before a flying start in the semi-final saw him claim another race win.
Yet title rival Greg Hancock prevailed in a dramatic Grand Final battle to leave Woffinden forced to settle for second place.
While he narrowly missed out on top spot, the Wolves skipper still leapfrogged the American at the top of the standings, moving three points clear going into the World Cup break.
Woffinden was pleased with his performance under pressure and believes the title race is perfectly set up ahead of the second half of the season.
He said: "The reception I got last year was huge when I was the underdog, so coming in as World Champion this time around the noise was just incredible.
"It's an amazing venue and the fans really made the event special.
"For sure I knew there was more pressure on me coming into this meeting, but I was really pleased to deal with that and have a good meeting.
"I can't really complain about second place – I scored a lot of points and had another good meeting, so although it would have been nice to get the win I'm happy overall.
"The way the standings are I'm sure the second half of the season is going to be really interesting."
