Tai Woffinden rides through the pain barrier in New Zealand's speedway Grand Prix
World champion Tai Woffinden says his performance in Saturday's New Zealand FIM Speedway Grand Prix has given him something to build on.
Woffinden raced just a week after suffering multiple injuries in a British Elite League meeting for Wolverhampton – and scored seven points.
Now he's set for more physio and work in the gym when he returns to the UK tomorrow before riding for Parrys International Wolves in their next meeting against King's Lynn at Monmore on April 14.
He said: "Not bad is how I would sum it up, not bad at all when you take everything into account.
"I made a mistake with the set-up early on but as the night went on I get better and had a lot more speed.
"My back was painful but when I was out on the track it was manageable and now the first GP is out of the way we can move forward and hopefully build on that when we go to Bydgoszcz later this month.
"My physical condition is getting better and better every day, the back is feeling more comfortable which is encouraging for me.
"I'm going to have another week of physio and it should be sweet then.
"I'll be back in the gym this week too.
"The track was good, different to last year but an awesome track to ride and I hope we can go there next year!"
The determined Woffinden arrived Down Under nursing ligament damage in his left foot and a back problem.
