World speedway champion Tai Woffinden dreams of second Wolves title
Wolves' world speedway champion Tai Woffinden says winning the Elite League with the Monmore men in 2009 was almost as good as the global title.
The rider told a packed audience at an "Evening with Tai Woffinden" at the Cleveland Arms in Stow Heath Lane how keen he is for a league crown repeat.
"I think the league title is almost as good as winning the world championship," said the 23-year-old.
"When you win the world championship, it's you and your small team. But when you've done it, like Wolverhampton did it, there's your seven riders, each of them have two mechanics, friends would come and the fans. It's a completely different feeling."
Wolves were early pacemakers this year, only to slide out in the play-off semi-finals after being hit by injury.
"It was great at the start of the year," said Woffinden. "Unfortunately, Ty Proctor got injured. We kept cruising away, everything was all right, then obviously I had my couple of injuries. It really annoyed me, this season, because we were going so well and I would love to win another – 2009 was amazing."
