Dudley Heathens maintain perfect start in victory

Dudley Heathens maintained their perfect start to the National League season with a hard-working 56-36 home win against bitter rivals Mildenhall.

They were led superbly by inspirational skipper Ashley Morris, who is in the best form of his career, at Monmore Green last night.

Former Mildenhall man Lewis Blackbird also clearly enjoyed putting one over his old club in front of another bumper crowd.

The result gives the former Cradley club three wins from three meetings to keep their play-off push very much on target.

Morris and Blackbird combined for 5-1s in heats 13 and 15 to seal all three points – displaying excellent team riding in the process.

The duo are now warming up for the National League Pairs Championship on Sunday, which is at Mildenhall.

And team boss Will Pottinger was thrilled with the performance of his side and had special praise for the partnership of Blackbird and Morris.

He said: "It was a really good result. There were some very good performances and the partnership of Lewis Blackbird and Ashley Morris was particularly pleasing ahead of the Pairs on Sunday."

Dudley Heathens 56: Lewis Blackbird 14, Ashley Morris 12+2, Paul Starke 11, Max Clegg 10+1, Gareth Isherwood 3+1, Dan Greenwood 3+1, Nathan Greaves 3+1.

Mildenhall 36: Josh Bates 8+1, Dan Halsey 7+1, James Sarjeant 7, Jon Armstrong 6+1, Michael Neale 4, Ryan-Terry Daley 2+1, Aaron Baseby 2.
