The visitors arrived at Monmore Green on the back of six straight wins and were confident of getting a result.

But an unlikely 5-1 from Adam Skornicki and Ludvig Lindgren in the penultimate race gave Wolves the win to end a run of three consecutive defeats.

Popular Pole Skornicki sliced through Lakeside men Davey Watt and Richard Lawson in a scintillating move on the opening lap.

They joined Lindgren at the front and send the home fans into raptures after they had trailed for the majority of the meeting.

And captain Fredrik Lindgren joined forces with guest Scott Nicholls to put the icing on the cake with a further maximum in Heat 15 to give the Monmore men all three points.

The home side were eight behind after just five races. But Lindgren brothers Freddie and Ludvig combined to halve the deficit in heat six.

Then Jacob Thorssell and star guest Scott Nicholls made it back-to- back 5-1s in the next outing. The two sides could not be separated until heat 12.

Californian race ace Ricky Wells led home a 4-2 and gave Wolves the lead for the first time. That set the scene for Skornicki and Lindgren to complete a memorable comeback and hand Lakeside their first defeat in seven.

Skornicki bounced back from a tough couple of weeks with a strong display which included three race wins, whilet his middle order partner Ricky Wells made another solid contribution.

Down at reserve, Swedish duo Jacob Thorssell and Ludvig Lindgren were involved in some superb action. Thorssell in particular showed superb character, coming back from a dreadful start to notch 5+1.

Grand Prix star Fredrik Lindgren bagged 10+3 from the No.1 position after some excellent battles with returning club legend Peter Karlsson who scored 12 points for the visiting Hammers.

With Tai Woffinden missing through injury, Coventry skipper Scott Nicholls performed well as a guest to make 11+1.

Wolves opened up a four point advantage at the top of the Elite League table as they prepare for a tough trip to fourth placed King's Lynn tomorrow.

Wolves: Scott Nicholls 11+1, Freddie Lindgren 10+3, Adam Skornicki 10, Ludvig Lindgren 8+2, Ricky Wells 6+1, Jacob Thorssell 5+1.

Lakeside: Richard Lawson 12+1, Peter Karlsson 12, Lewis Bridger 6+2, Sebastian Ulamek 5, Davey Watt 2+1, Kevin Doolan 2, Piotr Swiderski 1.
