Perfect bank holiday win for Wolverhampton

It was a perfect Bank Holiday for Wolverhampton with glorious weather, a big crowd and a hard-fought win against rivals King's Lynn in a top-of-the-table clash.

It came via a late surge from the powerhouse spearhead of Freddie Lindgren and Tai Woffinden, along with some vital back-up.

That helped give the 53-39 scoreline a more emphatic appearance as the Monmore men moved four points clear at the top of the table.

But, credit to the Norfolk side, they refused to lie down and simply accept defeat when it looked as though they were heading for a good old thrashing.

Having built up a 12- point lead after eight races, the hosts looked set to cruise to victory against a Lynn side featuring three guests and rider replacement.

Yet Lynn struck a 7-1 courtesy of Niels-Kristian Iversen and Josh Grajczonek in heat nine, before a heat 12 maximum reduced the deficit to just four points.

However, Fredrik Lindgren and Tai Woffinden prevailed over GP colleague Iversen in heat 13 after four laps of unmissable action to put Wolves back in the driving seat.

Adam Skornicki then scored a priceless win in the penultimate race of the night whilst partner Jacob Thorssell edged third place before Lindgren and Woffinden wrapped up victory with a further 5-1.

Woffinden and Lindgren both made double figures to continue their dominant form – yet it was Aussie racer Ty Proctor who stole the show.

The 24-year-old bagged a paid maximum from the No.2 race jacket and was involved in three 5-1s – continuing his sparkling partnership with Woffinden.

With in-form reserve Ludvig Lindgren on Premier League duty, a lot of focus was always on Swedish compatriot Jacob Thorssell.

His job became more important when guest Alex Davies withdrew with a knee injury.

Yet 19-year-old Thorssell upped his game when it mattered most – accumulating paid double figures from six rides on an action-packed evening.

Adam Skornicki also continued his reliable home form with a battling display including the crucial heat 14 win.

It was a strong all-round team display from Parrys International Wolves to maintain their position at the top of the Elite League table.

With the club hosting the British Final next Monday, the side face a 16-day break before resuming their campaign with a mouthwatering local derby at Birmingham.
