On-form Wolves rout Coventry in away derby
Wolverhampton continue to defy the experts after bagging all four points from a 59-31 derby rout of Coventry at Brandon.
As team performances go, this was just about perfect last night.
The Tai Woffinden-Freddie Lindgren spearhead was unstoppable in 10 outings between them, the middle order was solid and there were race wins in the reserve department.
From the moment Woffinden, currently in the best form of his career, romped to a 5-1 with Ty Proctor in the opening heat, there was only ever going to be one winner.
The Monmore men reeled off four consecutive maximums between races five and eight to build up a comfortable 20-point advantage from which the Bees were never going to recover.
Middle-order men Adam Skornicki and Ricky Wells in particular worked extremely hard to nullify a Scott Nicholls tactical ride in heat seven.
Both men raded around the British Champion on the opening lap before holding on to take the chequered flag.
Californian ace Wells then extinguished any hopes of a comeback by his former club once again.
He teamed up with in-form reserve Ludvig Lindgren to keep Grzegorz Zengota in third place as he took the second Bees tactical ride in heat 12.
The dynamic duo of Woffinden and Fredrik Lindgren then completed the rout with further 5-1s in heats 13 and 15 to complete a 59-31 triumph.
Popular Swede Ludvig Lindgren celebrated being handed a permanent position at reserve by notching his highest score of the season so far – suffering only one defeat in four rides on his way to paid double figures.
Youngster Jacob Thorssell also showed plenty of promise on his way to four points – whilst Adam Skornicki worked extremely hard for his paid four contribution.
The result continues a quite remarkable start to the new season – with the side now opening up a four- point advantage over second placed Swindon who do have two meetings in hand.
Despite having not won on the road since 2010 prior to this season, the club have now recorded three out of four on their travels – a trend they will be keen to continue as the season progresses.
Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten admitted he was surprised with the margin of the win, and added: "All the riders again played a part, and the spirit in the pits is quite remarkable."
Coventry 31: Stuart Robson 6+1, Olly Allen 6, Grzegorz Zengota 6, Scott Nicholls 5+1, Aaron Summers 5, Krzysztof Kasprzak 3+1, Michal Szczepaniak 0.
Wolverhampton 59: Tai Woffinden 15, Freddie Lindgren 12+3, Ludvig Lindgren 9+1, Ricky Wells 9, Ty Proctor 7+3, Jacob Thorssell 4, Adam Skornicki 3+1.
