Wolves deft the experts to top the Elite League
Wolves continued to defy the experts by going top of the Elite League table with a convincing 59-34 win over Eastbourne.
Pre-season predictions from media and fans alike didn't make good reading for the Monmore side, but their early season form has been encouraging to say the least.
Fresh off the back of a shock victory at Poole on Wednesday night, Wolves made a lightning start with three 5-1s in the opening four races last night.
A six-point win for guesting Rory Schlein while going for double points gave Eastbourne some hope in heat five – but further Wolves maximums in heats six and eight ensured they kept the upper hand.
A superb run of 5-1s between races 10 and 13 then took the maximum tally to nine and sealed victory by a comprehensive 25- point margin.
Wolves' sixth win of the new campaign sees them leapfrog Swindon at the top of the Elite League table.
Their only defeat of the season came at the hands of Eastbourne on April 6, but they gained revenge with a thumping win on home soil.
Grand Prix star Tai Woffinden capped off a wonderful weekend with another maximum to lead the Wolverhampton charge.
He made his first ever Grand Prix Final appearance at Bydgoszcz on Saturday and baggeda 15-point maximum plus a track record for Polish club Wroclaw on Sunday.
Woffinden completed a remarkable few days with another faultless display. He was partnered spectacularly for the majority of the evening by Aussie racer Ty Proctor.
Proctor came agonisingly close to a maximum of his own – only losing out in a well-deserved heat 15 appearance.
The side now face a seven day wait before their next meeting as they prepare to showcase their flying form in front of the TV cameras at Coventry next Monday.
Wolves 59: Tai Woffinden 14+1, Ty Proctor 10+2, , Ludvig Lindgren 8+1, Jacob Thorssell 7+3, Fredrik Lindgren 7+2, Ricky Wells 7+1, Adam Skornicki 6.
