Wolves ride a belter to end Poole's long home run
Wonderful Wolverhampton rode superbly to end Poole Pirates' long unbeaten home run with a 48-42 victory.
The Parrys International Wolves had the match in the bag with a race to go, securing three Elite League points and announcing their arrival as serious play-off contenders.
And stand-in boss Chris Van Straaten, deputising for the unavailable Pete Adams, paid tribute to his men.
He said: "All the riders played their part. I think Ty Proctor in particular had a very good night, but every rider can point to a race where they did their job.
"It's a result that puts us safely in the top four for the next couple of weeks, which is good from a confidence point of view."
Having taken a 4-2 in the opening race of the night, the gutsy visitors fought hard to preserve their lead with Freddie Lindgren providing the move of the night in heat nine with a third to first blast.
A heat 10 5-1 from Darcy Ward and Dawid Stachyra put Poole ahead for the first time – but resilient Wolves hit back through Tai Woffinden and Ty Proctor in the very next race for a 5-1 to retake the lead.
Just as the meeting looked set to go to the wire, in-form reserve Ludvig Lindgren and Adam Skornicki combined.
They put on an unlikely maximum over Dennis Andersson and Chris Holder in the penultimate race to give Wolves an unassailable six-point lead.
With the spearhead of Woffinden and Freddie Lindgren both paid four double figures, mid-order riders Proctor and Skornicki continued their improvement.
Ludvig Lindgren's flying form also continued with paid nine against his former club as Poole suffered their first defeat at Wimborne Road since September 2011.
Poole: Maciej Janowski 12, Chris Holder 8+1, Darcy Ward 8, Dennis Andersson 4+1, Rohan Tungate 4+1, Dawid Stachyra 3+1, Kyle Howarth 3.
Wolves: Freddie Lindgren 12, Tai Woffinden 9+2, Ty Proctor 8+1, Adam Skornicki 7+1, Ludvig Lindgren 6+3, Ricky Wells 4+1, Jacob Thorssell 2.
