And it was the Lindgren brothers who stole the show with a combination of big scoring and battling heroics to turn the meeting in their favour last night.

Freddie got the second place needed to claim victory in the final race, but before then young Ludvig was involved in two crashes in successive heats.

He crashed awkwardly in heat 11 and then looked to be in trouble in the next race with an horrific fall. Thankfully, he was able to walk back to the pits slowly.

Much to the amazement of the Monmore faithful, 'Ludo' took his place in the re-run and partnered Ricky Wells to a 5-1 maximum over none other than world champion Chris Holder.

That result swayed the meeting back in Wolverhampton's favour for the first time after chasing Poole until then.

Pirates guest Niels-Kristian Iversen, who had a season riding for Wolves in their troubled 2008 campaign, jumped out of the start in heat 13.

But Wolves were able to pack the minor placings through Freddie Lindgren and Tai Woffinden.

Kyle Howarth won heat 14 for the Dorset outfit but Wolves still held the lead by three points.

Iversen won the last heat,, but Lindgren's second place was enough to win the match – although Poole claimed a consolation point for their efforts.

The sides will do it all again tomorrow at Wimborne Road with Wolves targeting a point.

Elsewhere last night, there were comfortable wins for Belle Vue over Coventry and reigning champions Swindon over Peterborough. Wolves are joint top with the Robins on nine points.

Wolverhampton 45: Freddie Lindgren 13, Tai Woffinden 9+1, Ludvig Lindgren 7+1, Adam Skornicki 6+2, Ricky Wells 5, Ty Proctor 4, Jacob Thorssell 1.

Poole 44: Niels-Kristian Iversen 14, Rohan Tungate 9+2, Chris Holder 8+1, Kyle Howarth 8, Dawid Stachyra 4+2, Maciej Janowski 1+1, Robert Mioskowiak R/R.
