Triple world champion Nicki Pedersen has turned down a short-term deal at Wolves.
The club asset, currently just two points behind leader Jason Crump in the Grand Prix standings, was contacted by management after Tai Woffinden broke a scaphoid bone in his wrist.
But team boss Peter Adams said: "He's been approached and he doesn't want to come. I can understand that. He is hovering near the top of the Grand Prix. He rides in Sweden and Poland, and accommodating this is just a bridge too far."
Injury-hit Wolves, with Woffinden and Nicolai Klindt sidelined, were beaten 54-39 at Monmore Green in the first leg of their Knockout Cup quarter-final last night.
