The shows must go on at the Civic
Wolverhampton Civic Hall will stage its second pro boxing show in as many months in March with a Midlands welterweight title fight at the top of the card.
Wolverhampton Civic Hall will stage its second pro boxing show in as many months in March with a Midlands welterweight title fight at the top of the card.
After next Saturday's Prizefighter, champion Jason Welborn takes centre stage in his first defence against Coventry's James Flinn on March 23.
The pride of the Midlands will also be at stake when Dudley's Welborn faces 'the Force,' who will be gunning to take the belt back down the M6.
Welborn unseated Coventry's Sean McKervey in just two rounds for the title at Walsall Town Hall in November and puts his power against Flinn's skill.
The former British Masters champion has just one defeat on a 12-fight pro record, an English title defeat against Adil Anwar last time out in November.
Anwar will now be a part of Prizefighter but Flinn is also coming to the Civic, as he looks to get his career back on track at Welborn's expense.
The main event is one of two title fights on the card, as Tipton's Lee Glover and Ian Bailey go for the vacant British Masters super bantamweight belt.
The two have been on a collison course since the back end of last year and were set to contest a six-rounder in Birmingham on Christmas week.
They could have even met in the last Prizefighter at featherweight four months ago, but both went out in the first round.
Two six-rounders are also on the bill as former English lightweight champion Martin Gethin and Thomas Costello face international opposition.
Gethin made his comeback after 19 months out with a back injury in November and is working towards Anthony Crolla's British title.
Birmingham's Costello, the undefeated light middleweight, returns to the West Midlands after a Knockout of the Year contender against Latvian Ivars Sedlins last June.
Joining them are dynamic Dudley featherweights Dean Anderson and Zak the Ripper – real name Saquib Amir – with Anderson returning after a 15-month break from boxing.
Hard-hitting Stafford middleweight Grant Cunningham, Stourbridge's Steven Pearce and Brierley Hill's Karl Spencer, the latter two from Shaun Cooper's gym in Dudley, make up the rest of the card.
