Teenage Heathen Darryl Ritchings has won Dudley's Rider of the Year award in his first full season of racing.

The 17-year-old beat several established stars to the honour and was handed the Ivor Hughes Memorial Trophy by former world champion Jan O Pedersen at the club's presentation evening last night.

Ritchings, who also picked up the Heathens Speedway Supporters' Club award for most bonus points, was given a standing ovation at Cradley Heath Liberal Club.

The Wayne Garratt Memorial Award for most improved rider went to Ashley Morris, currently racing in Australia.

Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson confirmed Dudley intend to spend a third season in the National League.
