The home team’s pressure eventually paid off with a penalty try after Harry Brogan had nearly crossed the line.

This spurred Leek into action and they responded with a well-worked unconverted try of their own to cut the deficit.

Stafford picked up the tempo with a good period of interplay, ending with Ben Taylor smashing through for a try, converted by James Moran.

Leek struck back again with a second unconverted try to haul the scores to within four points.

Stafford resumed the assault at the beginning of the second half, eventually breaching the strong defence through a Ben Gardner try, converted by James Moran.

And the home side saved the best until last with Alfie Spencer picking a great line to sprint the length of the pitch for a try underneath the posts, converted by Charlie Woolman.
