Matthew Dennant battles on PDC Pro Tour
Bloxwich's Matthew Dennant registered one win over two Players Championship tournaments in Ireland before the World Grand Prix got underway.
Dennant won at his first trip to the oche and came home with £500 for getting past the opening round of action,
Wolverhampton's Wayne Jones drew a complete blank in both competitions at the City West Hotel in Dublin, held before the Grand Prix began on Sunday and went live on Sky Sports.
Both featured in Friday's tournament, with Dennant beating Paul Milford 6-2 while Jones crashed to Jelle Klassen by the same score-line.
Dennant then let a 5-2 lead slip to lose 6-5 in the last leg to Andy Boulton, who was toppled 6-1 by Jonny Clayton in the third round.
The throwers returned to the same venue for Saturday's second and final Players Championship event, where Jones tumbled out 6-1 to Johnny Haines first up.
Dennant duelled with Nigel Heydon in a tremendous opening tussle, where he landed eight 180s to Heydon's five as the contest went to the last leg. His opponent somehow prevailed 6-5.
A small cash boost for Dennant leaves him joint 129th on the PDC Order of Merit and joint 118th in the Pro Tour standings.
Jones, a 14-year veteran of the PDC circuit, languishes 64th on the overall Order of Merit and 63rd in the Pro Tour rankings.
