Last 16 for Ted Hankey in BDO Scottish Open

A run to the last 16 in the doubles of the BDO Scottish Darts Open was as good as it got for Telford's Ted Hankey in Renfrew over the weekend.

The two-time BDO world champion was playing in only his second tournament since returning to the organisation from the PDC last month.

His first action at the Normandy Cosmopolitan Hotel came in a busy singles competition on Saturday, which featured a whopping 2,048 darters.

Hankey enjoyed whitewashes of S S Skilling and Ronnie Simpson 3-0, before beating John Cameron 3-1. Another 3-0 shut out over Davie Stein followed.

But he was edged out in the Group 38 final by winner Bernie McDonald, who held his nerve in a last leg decider to progress to the last 64 with a 3-2 win.

He enjoyed better luck partnering Mick Nixon yesterday, whitewashing Gudmunder Fridbjornsson and Kristjan Thorsteinsson 3-0 before a 3-2 victory over Dave Prins and Paul Clark.

Two more 3-0 whitewashes over Robert and Mark Jackson and Arran Edwards and Nathan McCabe followed, setting up the Group One final.

Again, 'the Count' came close alongside Nixon, but it was Glenn Durrant and Martin Atkins who prevailed 3-2 in another match that went to the last leg.
