Walsall boss wants more from Anthony Forde
Walsall manager Dean Smith today challenged winger Anthony Forde to add more goals to his game after the Irishman opened his account for the Saddlers.
Forde, who joined on a free transfer from Wolves, netted a free-kick on Saturday in a 3-0 League One win over Doncaster.
Now Smith wants more from the 20-year-old, saying: "He was excellent on Saturday and he was excellent last week at Gillingham as well.
"He set two goals up a couple of weeks ago. He knows he needs to score more goals, because he had a couple of chances inside the first minute and both got blocked.
"I'm really pleased he had his free-kick because he needs to score as well as just provide.
"There was a run in the 93rd minute to get back and defend and it just shows his attitude."
The Saddlers netted three times at the weekend after finding goals hard to come by in the early weeks.
Tom Bradshaw netted his fifth goal of the season but Smith insisted he never doubted other players would contribute.
He said: "Time gives you an understanding of players around you and how they play.
"It has not been a great start for us points-wise, but I think our performances have been OK in a lot of games, what has been missing is goals.
"Tom Bradshaw was a shoo-in to come straight back in because of the performances he has given and he could have had more than the one he got on Saturday."
Smith has refused to be drawn on the future of defender Andy Butler, whose initial month on loan from Sheffield United ends in early October.
The Saddlers boss said: "Come the end of the month it is up for us to discuss with Sheffield United if we want to keep him and to discuss with Andy if he wants to stay as well."
