Baggeridge lift Consolation Cup
Baggeridge Social Club sunk Division One rivals Wednesfield Cons to lift the Staffs & West Midlands Snooker League’s Consolation Cup.
Cons started the final with a small 21-point handicap in their favour and boosted that to 75 following victories for Simon Groves and Danny Ludgate, who rolled in a 42 break, in the opening two frames.
Baggeridge then launched an impressive fightback that saw David Hall pick up a 45-point success against Jodi Humphreys.
Frame four proved to be the turning point in the match as Justin Donoghue made the most of his chances to beat Lee Payne 93-16, which meant Baggeridge went into the final match of the night 20 points to the good. And Eliott Bastable duly completed the victory by beating Robin Bood to secure a 337-282 triumph.
Daniel Ward and Simon Hickman successfully defended their Foursomes title thanks to a 3-2 win over Karl Ashmore and Jamie Brown.
A break of 41 saw Brown secure the opening frame before Ward levelled the scores aided by a break of 32.
Brown and Ashmore hit back to lead again only for Hickman and Ward to force a deciding frame.
Ashmore rolled in a 54 break, but that wasn’t enough as Ward and Hickman battled back with Hickman knocking in a 30 to get them over the line.
