Walsall are setting the pace following win number four
Walsall are sitting pretty at the top of the Birmingham League GWT Group 2 after maintaining their perfect start to the summer.
A dominant derby day victory over Pelsall made it four wins from four for the men from Gorway.
After being asked to bat first, Walsall put their near neighbours to the sword as they piled up an impressive 301-5 from their 40 overs.
The day had started well for Pelsall when Todd Henderson bagged an early wicket, but Walsall then took charge as Amit John and Bill Cox once again hit form with the bat.
Opener John led the way as he recorded his second century of the season, while all-rounder Cox made 88.
James Middleton then added a dashing unbeaten 64 that included seven fours and four sixes.
Such a target was always going to be a stiff test and so it proved as Pelsall were restricted to 161-8 in reply, opener Jake Lee top scored with a fine 64.
Luke Stynes topped the bowling charts for Walsall with 3-28 while Cox and Samuel Mills both recorded figures of 2-26.
Himley skipper Olly Westbury set a perfect example with the bat to lead his side to a resounding success at home to Harborne.
Westbury was leading his side for just the second time this summer due to his Worcestershire commitments, but picked up where he left off the week before.
The talented opener was unbeaten on 108 as Himley chased down Harborne’s 235-7 for the loss of just one wicket.
Westbury shared partnerships of 104 with Bilaal Hussain (48) and 132 with Callum Lea (57 not out).
England bowlers past and present combined to help West Bromwich Dartmouth record a third win of the season.
Former Worcestershire man Kabir Ali, who made one Test and 14 one-day international appearances for England, took 4-16, and Pat Brown, who has played four T20 games for his country, bagged 3-12 as Dartmouth shot out Smethwick for 71.
Dartmouth had earlier posted 203-7 from their 40 overs. Kadeer Ali top scored with 80.
Halesowen are leading the way in GWT Group 4 after recording a fourth straight win.
After winning the toss and electing to bat against Barnards Green, 61 from Alex Hinkley and 30s from Wes Griffiths and Charlie Hartley helped them to 212-8 from 40 overs.
And that was a total they successfully defended as Barnards Green were dismissed for 175 in the final over of the day.
Eddie Rhodes (3-19) and Peter Scott (3-22) impressed with the ball for Halesowen.
Kidderminster are second in the standings with three wins from four.
Their latest success came in a low scoring affair with Bromsgrove.
Bromsgrove opted to bat first and some fine Kidderminster bowling saw them restricted to 133-6.
Charlie Stainforth picked up 4-18 from his eight overs while Liam Weston took 2-8 from four overs.
Experienced duo Matt Pardoe (49 not out) and Neil Pinner (45 not out) saw Kidder home by five wickets.
In GWT Group 1, Wolverhampton went down by five wickets at home to Shrewsbury.
Charlie Mackleworth (39 not out) and skipper Amritpal Singh (31) were the main contributors in Wolves’ 164-7.
The visitors got across the line in the 34th over despite a fine spell from Charlie Home that saw him pick up 2-12 from eight overs.
