Handball ace Olivia Whitty on rise
Olympia Cannock handball player Olivia Whitty finished runner-up in the Sutton Coldfield Sports Awards behind new Villa signing Louis Barry.
Whitty’s rise through the handball ranks has been meteoric, with the 17-year-old being made captain of the Great Britain under-19 team just three years after taking up the sport.
And she was philosophical after coming second to footballer Barry, who recently moved back to this country for around £1million up front after leaving Albion for Barcelona last summer.
Whitty said: “Credit to Louis for his achievements. We both attended Bishop Walsh Catholic School so it is a one-two for them. Somehow I don’t think I would fetch nearly as much in the transfer market!”
Handball sessions for girls are held at Chase Terrace School and Sutton Coldfield Girls Grammar School. For further information, email olympia
