The 22-year-old from Bilston, who is a member of the GB amateur squad, added another title to his growing list when he struck gold at the BUCS (British University Colleges Sport) Boxing Championships, writes Harriet Evans.

Orie is tipped for a bright future having already won the Development and NABGC titles, Haringey Box Cup gold and both the Elite and Tri Nations Championships.

And he gave further notice of his undoubted talented when he rounded off the three-day event with victory in the heavyweight final.

Hosted across the weekend, the championships saw 280 boxers compete at the University of Wolverhampton.

Universities from across the UK attended the event with male and female students battling it out for gold in 10 weight categories and 12 BUCS points for their respective universities.

This is the second year that the university has hosted the championships.

The action took place at the impressive Walsall Campus, a multimillion-pound sport centre with a 12-court, multi-sports hall.

James Dale, sport manager at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “We had students travelling to compete from Scotland to Plymouth.

“The venues were packed out and it proved to be a really popular event.

“We have received some really positive feedback regarding how the event was stage and we will be hosting the championships again in 2021.

“We took great pride in hosting the event last year. As a collective, we raised the profile of the event, student sport and engagement.

“We also want to make it as inclusive as possible, we run a scheme to get more girls involved in the sport.

“A big part of our role is to deliver the best possible student experiences in sport including those outside of the ring.

“Having the event for the next two years allows us to work on delivering an even better event in 2020 and beyond.

“We hope that events like this will help young people aspire to be in the ring themselves in a few years.”

The university has also been successful in its bid to host the 2021 BUCS Boxing Championships.
