The first team have powered their way to the top of the Midlands Two West (North) standings and their brilliant sequence of results for January has seen then named England Rugby’s team of the month.

The Castlecroft-based side powered to a full house of four victories during the month, scoring 30 tries and 189 points in the process.

That has left them 10 points clear of nearest rivals Stafford and Camp Hill, firmly on course to claim the title.

The RFU dish out awards at various levels across the country and Wolves forwards coach Ian Harley is delighted to see the side’s efforts rewarded.

“It’s very nice to get some recognition for how we are doing this season,” said Harley.

“There are probably more than 200 clubs around the country at level seven, so to have performed the best is a real achievement.

“The players have really bought into what we are trying to do this season.

“The first team have won 13 games on the spin and the aim is to keep going and make sure we have something to celebrate at the end of the season.”

But it’s not just the senior side who are blazing a trail this season, with the club’s other teams also making their mark.

“The club really is a good place to be at the moment because it’s not just the first team who are having some success,” added Harley.

“The second team have won 12 straight games and are also top of their division.

“The thirds and the colts are going well and the women’s team are battling it out for the title as well. We have had seasons where one or two sides have done well, but we have never had this sort of consistency across so many teams.

“Training numbers have been good all season. The players know that if they don’t work hard and are fully committed to training, then they will be struggling for a place in their respective sides.

“The success appears to be driving everyone on.

“Everyone wants to be in the pictures of the title-winning teams that get put up on the clubhouse wall.”
