Perfect day keeps St John’s clear at top of the Aldridge League

It’s as you were at the top of the Aldridge League standings after table-toppers St John’s chalked up another victory.

Robbie James was the star turn with a 68 break as St John’s eased to a 5-0 whitewash at Landywood SC A.

Jack Harris, Jamie Harris, Steve Barton, with a run of 38, and Kane Grigg helped fire the leaders five points clear of Pelsall Social Club.

Pelsall were also victorious, seeing off Stafford Institute 4-1 at home.

Stuart Jones put the visitors ahead, but Scott Tapper won on the black to level before levelled Paul Harrison, with a break of 43, put hosts in front. Chris Jones and Nathan Aston then took the last two frames to seal the win.

Bottom-of-the-table Bloxwich Memorial A bagged their first win of the season.

They hit form to beat visiting Stafford Road A 4-1 – Alan Hathaway, Rob Hayward, Steven Cotterill and Craig Meredith the men on the mark. Kelton Scott claimed a consolation frame for Stafford.

Aldridge Cons B still lead the way in Division One after picking up a 3-2 home win against Colebatches Club.

Tony Walker saw Aldridge to victory in the deciding frame after earlier wins from Richard Parker and Matt Caron. Leon Tranter and Mike Williamson replied.

Poets Corner climbed above Pelsall Social B into second place after beating them 4-1.

Pommy Kang, Bill Stanton, Mark Archer, with breaks of 38 and 33, and Scott Smith got the job done.

Next up saw Rushall Labour A move 3 points away from the bottom two as they rise to seventh place following an impressive 4-1 home win against early promotion contenders Aldridge Social Club. The hosts got off to a quick start with Darren Westwood and Steven Shaw taking the opening frames before the visitors picked up their only frame of the night in frame three with Michael Tonks picking up the win on the final black. That was as good as it got for them though as Craig Ash took a comfortable fourth frame to put the hosts 3-1 up before John Shaw was awarded the last frame as a walkover to give them a 4-1 win.

In Division Two, leaders Q Bar eased to a 4-1 win against visiting Golden Cue B.

Q Bar’s Lee Dennant bagged the highest in the division this season with an impressive 56. Stewart Baker, Ryan Smiths and Terry Fryer added to Dennant’s win.

Old Hall SC B are second, a point behind, following a 4-1 away win at Lichfield Road BC. The visitors took the opening three frames through Steve Morris, Nathan Edwards and Callum Crutchley and the the last one through Tom Hurst.

Rushall Labour B made it back-to-back wins as they picked up a 3-2 success at Birchills.

Paul Lidgbird and Martin Maxwell put them into an early lead before the hosts hit back to level through Gary Hall and Peggy James.

The decider was a very tight affair, but it eventually went the way of Rushall’s Liam Davies.

The 6-reds Handicap Cup saw Simon Gough overcame the handicap disadvantage to beat Dean Tillson, with his break of 35 in the final frame proving the difference as he won 202-173.

Joshua Walker took three of the four frames to beat John Shaw 137-106.

Scott Smith also booked his place in the next round after battling his way past Joe Woodhouse, 156-122.

A break of 30 helped Darren Westwood see off the challenge of Andy Evans at Landywood SC, 124-90.

Ian Miles also progressed after beating Lee Thomson 129-86.

In the two remaining Captain’s Cup matches, Bob Foster took two out of the three frames to get the better of Carl Barnfield at the Amery Club.

Mark Poole joined Foster in the next round, winning all three frames on his way to a 209-65 success against Pete Darby.
