St John’s back in a familiar position
Defending Aldridge League champions St John’s SC are back on top of the pile again.
St John’s moved into pole position in the Premier Division on the back of a 5-0 away-day success at Aldridge Cons A.
Jack Harris got St John’s off to a flyer as he took the opening frame with a break of 49. Rich Hunt, Steve Barton, Jamie Harris and Mick Faulkner completed the whitewash.
Wednesfield Cons bagged their first victory of the season as two black-ball wins helped them beat Stafford Road A 4-1.
Gary Haynes put the visitors ahead, but the hosts hit back through Josh Walker, Paul Harrison, Mitchell Lowbridge and Oliver Spooner.
Willenhall Libs were next up and they made it two wins from two with a 4-1 home win against Stafford Institute. Simon Gough took the opener for Libs before Steve Heath hit back to level the match up at 1-1. That frame ended up being just a consolation for the visitors as Lee Bannister took the third frame before Adrian Rosa with a break of 32 made the match safe at 3-1 which left Nathan Wood (30) to take the final frame to round off the win.
In Division One, Aldridge Cons B came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the Amery Club – Tony Walker was the man who held his nerve in the decider.
Aldridge Social made it two wins from two courtesy of a 3-2 success on the road at Darlaston Cons, despite only having four players. Jake Vardy, Jason Green and Rob Brown secured the win.
Poets Corner beat 3-2 Colebatches to record their first success of the season.
Q Bar are the early pacesetters in Division Two.
An impressive whitewash of hosts Norton Vic – secured by Ryan Smith, Lee Dennant, Stewart Baker, Terry Fryer and Tom Collier – took them to the top of the standings.
Aldridge Cons C sit second after a 4-1 win at home to Golden Cue B.
Carl Murphy took a tight opener for Aldridge before Steve Vowles took the next frame to put them in control at 2-0 up. Bob Davis was next up and he secured his frame to seal the match win and that was followed up by a win for Bryan Jeffreys to make it 4-0 before Golden Cue eventually got on the scoreboard with Hasib Hussain taking the final frame to at least avoid a whitewash defeat. Stafford Road B were next up and they picked up their first win of the season after a hard fought 3-2 win away at Rushall Labour B. They started the match really well as Dean Tillson picked up a comfortable win in the opener and that was followed up by a win for Mark Dickerson to lead the match 2-0. Despite being down the hosts fought back by taking the next two frames through Dan Armstrong and Liam Davies to force a decider. The comeback wasn’t to be though as a good performance from Garry Hale in the decider ensured the visitors went home with the win.
Pommy Kang and Adam Hartshorn picked up wins for the hosts with the visitors forcing a decider through wins for Ian Beale and Jonny Pearce. The decider was very close with Poets Mark Archer taking the early lead following a safety battle but his opponent Leon Tranter fought back to take the lead as he took a break of 30. Following a snooker, a missed yellow to the middle by Leon proved costly as Mark took a excellent clearance of the colours to take the win for his side.
