Glory for Wollaston aces

Wollaston Tennis Club served up a stunning finish to the season to claim title glory.

The club’s mixed team were crowned Kidderminster League Division Two champions after going through the season unbeaten – but only after a dramatic run-in.

WTC needed to win their final two matches by four rubbers to nil – the last of which was against tile rivals Kidderminster, who were sitting top of the standings.

But the WTC aces came up trumps, including two championship tie-breaks in the shoot-out for glory to take the top spot in dramatic fashion.

The team is run very much on a squad basis and saw 12 different players representing WTC through the season.

Chairman Alan Hughes said: “We are delighted to see our mixed team achieve this success and look forward to competing at the next level next season. Congratulations to all concerned.”

As well as the mixed side, WTC also run four men’s and three ladies’ teams which play in the Hereford and Worcester and Staffordshire Leagues.

WTC also run an an extensive programme of coaching for all ages.

The Club, which has seen significant investment in 2018 with four brand new all-weather courts with state-of-the-art floodlighting, thanks to financial grant funding by Enovert Community Trust and Ibstock Enovert Trust.

The club offers tennis throughout the year, with the new upgraded courts complimenting the other four modern courts that they already have.

They are all specially designed to provide good tennis in all weather conditions and provide a safe surface on which to run, even on cold days.

The new floodlighting means that players can also enjoy using the courts on dark winter nights
