Experience key for AFC Wulfs boss

Boss Darren Goodall is targeting a top half finish in the Midland League Premier Division for AFC Wulfrunians after a summer focused on adding experience to his squad.

A generally positive first campaign at Castlecroft for the former Lye chief was tarnished slightly by a poor finish, which saw Wulfrunians slide to 12th in the closing weeks.

“If I have one criticism of last season, it is that we were maybe a little naive,” said Goodall, whose side entertain Heather St John’s on Saturday.

“We ended up finishing six points adrift of sixth and you did wonder what might have been.

“I think we have got a better team this season. We have been looking to add experienced players.”

Scott Moore has joined Wulfs as assistant boss, with Ben Jeavons and Matt Johnson also part of the backroom staff.

Lye Town will be looking to improve on last season’s 10th-placed finish and they launch their season away to South Normanton Athletic
