Junior captain Katie Symonds was the toast of the club after battling her way to victory in the Staffordshire Girls’ County Championships.

Symonds made the most of home advantage to win the overall best gross score title at the event.

As well as Symonds’ success, there have also been two holes in one to celebrate with Graham Richards and Craig Conlan both achieving the feat at the par three 14th.

Conlan’s ace came while he was representing the club in team action.

Druids Heath enter teams into two regional team competitions each year.

Their scratch side are in Division Five of the West Midlands Scratch League, which sees them play five other clubs on a home and away basis, and they have started with a win and a loss.

The first fixture of the summer saw Druids gain an impressive 5½-2½ success at home to Hollywood.

Danny Wall produced the standout performance as he powered to a 9 &7 success.

The second clash of the season saw Druid go down 6-2 to away to Bloxwich.

The West Midlands team played their opening home fixture against Beau Desert and secured a 3-1 victory, during which Conlan landed his hole-in-one in one on way to victory with partner Dean Megan.

Their second game at Bloxwich brought a hard-fought point following a 2-2 draw.

The club action saw the over-55s section – the Ancient Druids – start their midweek competitions.

Bob Dalton and Richard Jones had cause for celebration after claiming two individual events.

Dalton won the Ancient Putter with a score of 40 Stableford points while Jones registered a score of 38 to claim the Peter Cox Trophy.

The Ancients Druids team boast a 100 per cent record after winning all four matches against Aston Wood, Handsworth, Drayton Park and Burton.

The men’s section has seen plenty of early action with the first ‘majors’ of the year taking place.

Shaun Saxon lifted the Druids Cup while the Champion of Champions was won by Tom Guest.

Jon Hoggarth is toasting an early season double.

He teamed up with Dan Wall to win the VH Pearce Trophy, which is a two-man Texas scramble, and then partnered Ryan Wells to claim the Winter League spoils.

The Boldmere Bowl went to Mark Hooper, who followed that success up by winning the club’s next Stableford showdown.

The Bank Holiday fourball was claimed by Scott McChristie and Brian Lenton, thanks to a nett 60.

Off the course, club captain Jeff Stanton is working hard to raise funds for this year’s chosen charity, the Air Ambulance Service.
