Burntwood's Lloyd Shelley, who dominated the opening Formula 600 rounds, was not in action, and neither was Dudley's Mark Cockerton, who had sat third in the Classic & Forgotten Era up to 250cc class after one round.

Both have since fallen out of the top three of their respective classes but returning to action with a bang was Willenhall's teenage star Mcauley Longmore, who again showed his talent having himself missed the opening round.

The 15-year-old, who kept himself busy over the school holidays improving his race craft with PCR performance, took a start-finish victory in the opening Junior class race, with Ash Barnes passing George Hopper on the final lap for the second spot.

The tables were turned in the second race with Hopper taking the start-finish win.

Barnes also took an unchallenged second-placed finish after Longmore had recovered from a poor start to claim the final podium position.

Longmore's father, Steve, said: "We had a good practice. He went out for his first race on his Lightweight machine, on wet tyres. After a few laps he came around paddocks corner and the back end went.

"He managed to hold onto the bike, taking a run onto the wet grass and keeping it up straight, but after a few more laps he came in.

"The bike was okay but Mac was just complaining his side was a bit saw from a tank-slapper.

"After fuelling up ready for his next race straight after, he looked confident in the Junior class and came first in the opening race.

"With a bad start in the second he settled for third, but it was a good weekend."

Longmore will be keeping himself busy over the next few weeks racing at Cadwell Park, in Lincolnshire, over the May bank holiday weekend, in Thundersport GB series.

After that, he might look at entering some of the later British Superbike rounds, in the British Junior Supersport class, to see how he gets on.

"Mcauley also did two days experience working at PCR performance last week whilst on school holiday and loved every minute of it working with a team," said Steve.

"He got on with the lads and we'd like to thank Paul and Hollie of PCR for taking the time out, setting it up and making it possible.

"We would also like to thank Steve Langley, Managing Director off Chase Accident Repairs, in Cannock, for the great new spray job he’s kindly done on the bike, showing his support for today’s young racers."

With two rounds gone, the Junior championship is headed by riders who have topped up their points with results in both rounds one and two.

Katie Hands leads the way with James Bull second and Scarlett Robinson third.

Staffordshire's Matt Zschiesche also continues to go well in two classes, sitting second in the Formula 600 Championship as well as leading the Sound of Thunder series.

With the Isle of Man TT taking place end of May and into early June – and with many competitors and spectators making the annual trip – round three of the Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Race Championship will take place on June 16.

Admission costs for all rounds, except the end of season Stars at Darley meeting, costs £13 per day, with children under 16 free, and senior citizens £9.

Parking and paddock transfer is free, while programmes cost £3.
