Three and easy as Hotshots are crowned champions again

Hotshots are toasting a hat-trick of title successes after being crowned Staffs and West Midlands League champions for the third year running, writes Mark Poole.

They clinched Division One glory despite going down 3-2 at Sedgley Wmc A with frame wins from Karl Ashmore and Bal Sembi, with a run of 38, seeing them over the line.

Andy Cambridge, Shaun Edwards and Rich Haney won for Sedgley.

There was a good performance from relegated Golden Cue C as Hiten Patel’s break of 58 helped them to a 3-2 home win struggling Wednesfield Cons A.

Hiten’s win was followed up by Mark Darby and Jim Woodhouse (41). Wednesfield are now six points adrift from safety after this defeat with their wins on the night coming fromPaul Harrison and Lee Payne, who hit a break of 48.

Brandhall Labour were another team in form as they picked up a 4-1 home win against Pennfields A.

Jamie Spence and Dan Petch put Brandhall 2-0 up before Jason Kendrick, with a break of 52, cut the deficit.

But any hopes of a comeback were dashed in the next frame as David Thompson rolled in a 52 to seal the win before Andy Round made it 4-1.

In Division Two, Woodfield Social A edged closer to promotion after extended their lead at the top to four points with a 3-2 triumph at relegation-threatened Golden Cue D.

They had to do it the hard way, though, as Golden Cue got off to a great start through Shawn Smith and Desmond Walker.

But the leaders turned the match thanks to victories from Richard Scott, Matt Harvey and Ed Jennings.

Smethwick Labour moved six points clear of their promotion rivals Sedgley WMC C after beating them 4-1.

Scott Longhurst, Terry Flukes (38), Ashley Flukes (38) and Dean Skidmore won for Labour with Lee Edwards replying.

At the other end of the table, Landywood SC B have become the second team to be relegated after going down 4-1 away to Stafford Institute B.

Ian Esprey took the opener for Landywood but the hosts hit back with wins for Paul Edwards, Steve Smart, Stuart Jones and Paul Weatherer.

Woodfield Social B clinched the Division Three title in style with a 3-2 home win over second-placed Goodyear C.

Lee Haselum put in another top performance for the new champions as he hit breaks of 56 and 48. There were also further wins for Mike Collins and Dwyer Evans.

Bloxwich Memorial Club hold the final promotion spot after recording a 4-1 win at home to Cannock Cons B – Aaron Gale, Simon Kelly, Joshua Walker and Rob Hayward were the men on target.

The battle for the Division Four title took another twist as leaders Bushbury Grid A were promoted despite suffering a shock 4-1 defeat away at lowly Woodfield Social D.

Michael Skidmore, Alan Matthews, Roger Lees and Peter Hyland secured an impressive win.

Golden Cue E took advantage of Bushbury’s slip by beating Woodfield Social C 4-1.

They cut the gap to just two points thanks to victories from Liam Jones, Ryan Hamilton, Ade Holmes and Martin Beastall.

The battle for the final promotion place looks like going down to the wire with Bushbury Grid B closing to within three points of third place after a 3-2 win against Wolverhampton Electric B.

Craig Jones, Stephen Platt and Simon Flinders, in the deciding frame, saw Bushbury home.

Division Five leaders Bushbury Grid C picked up a hard-fought 3-2 win at Willenhall Liberal B thanks to Paul Wakeman, Darren Shirley and Daniel Boucher.

In the battle for the final promotion place, Jds SC A remain in third place but their promotion hopes were dented after they lost 3-2 away at the Amery Club. Phil Robertson, Kevin Evans and Dennis Bates put Amery into a 3-0 lead before Jds finally hit back to get themselves what could be 2 valuable points with wins for Carl Dawson-Bannister and Dave Holmes.

Forty-Four Club B were relegated after losing 3-2 at home to fellow strugglers Landywood SC C. Matthew Davies and Callum Upton picked up wins for Forty-Four but it wasn’t enough as Landywood hit through Luke Garrett, Simon Cope and Matt Pickering.

RAFA took a big step towards promotion from Division Six with a 4-1 win at Wolverhampton Electric C courtesy of Peter Brackenbridge, Paul Johnson, Steve North and Terry Guy.
