Kevin Perry and Martin Owen weigh in for a Penkridge Pairs win

Kevin Perry and Martin Owen proved to be the perfect double act as they finished top of the pile in the latest Dynamite Baits Angling Trust & Canal & River Trust Canal Pairs Championship 2018 qualifier.

The contest took place on the Wolverhampton AA Waters of the Staffs & Worcester Canal in Penkridge where 32 pairs lined the towpath.

And it was Dudley’s Perry (Shakespeare Superteam/Bait-Tech) and Bloxwich-based Owen (Sensas Black Country) who took the spoils with seven points.

The duo had alredy booked their place in the Grand Final, which will be held on 20th October on the Staffs & Worcester Canal and Trent & Mersey Canal.

Simon Preece (Crewe Match Angling) took the individual honours with 16-11-0. Asa Cooper (3 Counties) followed with 10-12-0, nudging Wolverhampton’s Dave McCall (Shakespeare Superteam/Bait-Tech) into third with 10-7-0.

Mel Howard (Canal Kings) eased to victory in the Sportsman AC Open on the Metro Bridge Section of the Walsall Canal in Wednesbury.

Pole-fishing caster off peg five, Howard recorded 13-11-0 of all bream.

Next came Baz Buckley (Sportsman AC) with 9-1-0 from adjacent peg six, leaving Norman Wilson (Good Intent) in third with 6-13-4 from peg eight.

Stafford’s Jason Edmonds grabbed top spot in the Bridgtown Social AC contest on the Damsel Pool at Carney Pools in Wolseley Bridge, Rugeley.

Pole-fishing maggot off peg five, Edmonds bagged carp to 10lb, small F1s and a few silvers for 55-8-0.

Roger Hunter took second on peg 11 with 50-8-0, ahead of Lazy Hill-rod Terry Blyde, who returned 38-0-0 at peg 21.

Wednesfield’s Mel Wood (Four Ashes AC) headed the latest Wolverhampton Over 60s Club Open.

The Fox & Anchor PH Section of the Staffs & Worcester Canal in Slade Heath, Coven. was the venue where top two both pole-fished squatt and pinkie over groundbait, catching mainly small roach and perch.

Drawn on peg three, Wood returned 6-8-0 with Telford-rod Ray Bates netting 5-6-12 for second.

Third place went to Penkridge-rod Dave Smith (Bridgtown Social AC) who weighed in 4-13-4.

Keith Brandrick enjoyed another successful trip across the border into Shropshire.

Brandrick (Baggeridge AC) netted a second successive win in the Quarry Pool Open in Aston Eyre.

Pole-fishing soft pellet down the side of peg 12, Bradnick tipped an admirable 191-6-0 of carp to 14lb onto the scales.

Runner-up, Martin Griffiths (S. Jones AC) weighed in 167-10-0 with Jake Price (Goodyear AC) taking third with 152-8-0.
