The champagne corks were popping at Dudley Dell after they clinched the Dudley Building Society League title for the first time in their history.

Dell put the seal on a stunning season with a convincing 10-4 final-day success over Woodfield A to kick-start the celebrations.

Simon Homer delivered the best card of the day (21-5) as one of eight winners for Dell, who ended the season eight points clear of second-placed Willenhall Nordley A.

Skipper Nick Wyer was delighted to see the club end their search for glory and believes belief was one of major reasons for the success.

“It’s my first season as skipper and I hadn’t realised that Dudley had never won the title before,” said Wyer. “So it’s a great achievement to finally be crowned champions.

“I think confidence has been the key to success. In previous years we have always thought we were second best, so this season I just encouraged everyone to believe that we had the best team. And the results have shown that.”

Nordley ended their season with an 11-3 victory at home to Cradley S&S. M&B Cheslyn Hay completed the top three.

With the battle for silverware having been decided, league officials are now turning their attention to the future.

Following the shock resignation of Chadsmoor earlier in the season, a meeting has been called for all top flight clubs to attend which will essentially invite clubs to discuss the structure of the Premier Division moving forward.

The meeting will take place on Monday, 15 October at Willenhall Nordley (7.30pm).
