Matt Pinner keen to keep the title push rolling
Kidderminster skipper Matt Pinner has challenged his side to build on an encouraging start to the season as they chase an immediate return to the top tier of Birmingham League cricket.
The Chester Road club have shaken off the disappointment of last season’s relegation to establish themselves among the early Division One pacesetters.
Last weekend’s three-wicket success against Oswestry propelled Kidderminster into second spot behind an in-form Tamworth outfit.
Pinner’s men have won four and lost two of their six matches to date and while the former Worcestershire and Leicestershire batsman is pleased by their progress, he is keen to see his side generate some real momentum.
“It’s been a good start and a big improvement on last year,” said Pinner.
“We have added some more strength in depth. We brought in four players and they have all had an impact.
“We have won a couple then lost one, then won a couple and lost one again, which has been a bit frustrating.
“We are still second in the league but I would like to see us get on a bit of a roll.”
Kidderminster face two eye-catching games over the next fortnight, both at home, starting with tomorrow’s clash with fourth-placed Leamington and then table-topping Tamworth, and Pinner is braced for some more tough cricket.
“We have got two big games coming up. Leamington are fourth and Tamworth are top of the table and going well,” said Pinner.
“The target is definitely to go straight back up. Things are going to be a bit different next year with the restructure, but it’s important we don’t take our eyes of this year.
“There are a lot of good teams in this division and we have had to fight for every win, it hasn’t been easy. But we have a group of players who have been working really hard.”
Pinner will be without the services of batsman Matt Pardoe and wicketkeeper Simon Greenall for the next few weeks due to their work commitments.
But paceman Patrick Brown is back tomorrow after figuring recently for Worcestershire in their Royal London Cup games. Fellow New Road man Ben Twohig is also available.
Himley will be looking to check Tamworth’s flying start tomorrow and, at the same time, bounce back from last Saturday’s seven-wicket reverse at Wellington.
