Willenhall Town looking for new manager as they prepare for Division Two of West Midlands Regional League
Willenhall Town are hunting for a new permanent manager after slipping into the bottom tier of the West Midlands League.
The Lockmen endured a difficult season, finishing at the foot of the Division One table.
That followed the body blow of being demoted from the Premier Division at the end of the 2016/17 campaign following their decision to ground share with Wednesfield.
And on the back of that they lost an entire team and had to rebuild their squad.
The 2017/18 season saw The Lockmen play under three different managers with nearly 100 players turning out for them.
They finished the season having won just three league games. However, the club has vowed to ‘get back into the higher leagues and fight every challenge head on’.
A club spokesman said: “The 2017/18 season is probably the first time we are truly relieved a season is over.
“We had a humiliating experience even before we kicked a ball by finding that our new home meant we were going to be unceremoniously demoted from the Premier Division, but found out at the same time as everyone else.
“We lost an entire team and so had a limited pre-season but worked hard throughout.
“Three managers all contributed to the cause and nearly 100 players contributed with their time and commitment.”
Willenhall hope to appoint a permanent manager who is up for the challenge to lead them back up the divisions.
The club is planning to continue playing at Wednesfield’s ground next season.
Willenhall have no budget and a small team of volunteers with an ethos that ‘everyone plays their role on a voluntary basis’.
The spokesman continued: “Willenhall fight every challenge head on – on and off the pitch. We were written off seven seasons ago but have battled against the odds to still be here today.
“Our aim in the short term is to get back up the league and into a higher division.
“This is going to take time, commitment, tenacity, connections for players, and a grim determination to work side by side with the board to get back to where we should be.”
Applicants are being asked to express their interest by emailing chairperson@wtfcofficial.co.uk.
A reply with a set of questions will then be sent back.
The club will then invite applicants in for interviews. The deadline for applications is May 25.
