Storm Stacey on his way to British Talent Cup
Rising star Storm Stacey has the world of racing at his feet after securing a spot on the British Talent Cup.
The Staffordshire youngster was one of just 22 teenage riders to be chosen following a furious two-day selection process at Silverstone.
Almost 100 hopefuls attended the trial, which involved a full day of race action overseen by talent promotion director Alberto Puig, special adviser Shuhei Nakamoto and British talent scout Jeremy McWilliams – then chose the 22 permanent entries, plus a further six for the reserve list.
Stacey, 14, from Eccelshall, who currently sits third in the British Motostar championships – a support series for the British Superbikes – made the final cut after being recognised as one of the UK’s best young talents.
“I’m so excited to be competing in the British Talent Cup and getting through the first ever selection, it’s an amazing opportunity,” Stacey said.
The FPW Racing rider qualified for the inaugural series following an intense
trial initially involving 92 young riders. They were sent out in groups of six for 15 minutes around the Stowe circuit.
Fifty riders made it through the first phase, which was later reduced to 35 as the day progressed, before the final names for 2018 were announced.
Mr McWilliams said: “It’s been a hectic day and it’s stressful for us and the kids.
“The kids ride on the limit to impress but it’s a process that brings out the best, as we found out today.
“It’s the start of an incredible journey for the riders who have been selected and maybe even for some of the reserve riders.”
