Twenty Halesowen RBL AC anglers set up around the Furnace and Mill Pools for their latest bout with venue expert Evans stealing the show.

Evans was stationed on peg 85 on the Mill Pool and weighed in 75-0-0 of mainly carp, skimmers and roach, which all fell to poled caster.

Martyn Yarsley took second with 57-0-0 from peg 87 with Brian Smith completing the top three after landing 53-12-0 on next peg 88.

Rough Hay AC set up around Dan’s Pool in Featherstone where Cannock-based professional drummer Steve Hitchens beat the rest of the field with 62-8-0 of carp to 5lb, gathered on poled luncheon meat, presented well-out and on his edge line at peg 11.

Wolverhampton AA match secretary Arthur Shaw took second spot with 56-9-0 of like-fish to the same bait tactics, bolstered by a 16lb 9oz ghost carp off peg seven.

Third place went to Cliff Archbold with 47-5-0 from peg 13.

It was a tight tussle for top billing at the Wolverhampton AA Open on the Shropshire Union Canal in Pendeford where some hearty bream weights filled the frame.

Armitage-based Digger Conway (Carthy’s Tackle) grasped the glory on peg one with all bream to 2lb 8oz, caught on chopped worm and caster for 21-8-3.

The next two chose the same approach with Barry Williams (Four Ashes AC) claiming second with 21-5-5 at peg 10, ahead of Brownhills’ Dave Holbrook (Four Ashes AC) who weighed in 18-13-0 at peg four.

JCB’s Chris Brown ran out a clear winner in the Blackfords Progressive Open on Kingswood Lake in Cannock.

Brown took the spoils from peg 46 with 22 bream to 2lb 8oz, taken on the Method feeder with pellet and pellet on the hook for an admirable 52-10-0.

Wednesfield’s Kevin Tipton (Sensas) followed with 25-10-0, leaving Blackfords’ Ian Davies in third with 20-0-0.
